The Foundation for Urological Research The Foundation was established to unify and support a team of clinicians and basic scientists to develop more accurate diagnostic tests and successful treatment strategies for patients with diseases of the urogenital system. Prostate, bladder and kidney cancer. are among the top ten cancers causing suffering and death in the United States. Nonmalignant diseases such as urinary tract dysfunction, incontinence and infection of have enormous impact on the quality of life of the U.S. population. The economic impact of treatment for urologic diseases is estimated at 11 billion dollars annually . The Foundation is committed to the advancement of research and translation of these advances to clinical practice The education and training of physicians and healthcare personnel is included in our mission. The Foundation for Urological Research is a partnership program of Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), Urology of Virginia and Sentara Cancer Institute (SCI). The faculty and staff represent various departments including Urology, Pathology, Radiation Oncology, Biochemistry and Microbiology. The medical and scientific programs and accomplishments of the Foundation faculty have achieved recognition worldwide. Our original foundation, the Virginia Prostate Center has expanded its scope of research to include other cancers and benign urological diseases. Therefore, the Virginia Prostate Center is now under the Foundation for Urological Research which remains a 501© 3 not for profit organization. |
